Siripa/Fofona, or antique chest and/or back ornament. Women plat the fiber backing of this ornament which is then decorated with small Nassa shells.  The pigmentation is then done by men, who are the keepers of the large Ovula shells which signify prestige.  Ornaments of prestige as well as ceremonial decoration, the Fofona are badges of male initiation to signify that the wearer has endured painful initiation rights.
